Resolved Question: Can Windows XP be re-installed in the following scenario?

I have Windows XP installed on an extended partition and Windows 2003 Server installed on primary partition of the same hard disk. They are in dual-boot mode. Had followed the below mentioned sequence of installation: 1. Windows 2003 server (Primary Partition 'C:') (External hard disk connected for installing various softwares, partitions 'D:', 'F:') 2. Windows XP (Extended Partition 'E:') (External hard disk stay connected during installation) 3. Installed SP2 for Windows XP (External hard disk disconnected) 4. Installed SP3 for Windows XP (External hard disk disconnected) Can't boot into Windows 2003 server. Blank Screen!!! 5. System restored Windows XP to the point service pack 2 was installed. Now Windows XP is in service pack 1. (External hard disk disconnected.) Can't boot into windows 2003 server. Looks like Windows XP somehow overwrote/erased most of Windows 2003 server (Not sure at what point of time this happened!). The disk space where windows XP is installed has grown up to 8.5GB. 6. Re-installed Windows 2003 server with no change in partition. Now it is possible to boot from both the operating systems. (External hard disk connected for installation of various other softwares) Q1. Is it possible to erase Windows XP installation and re-install the same with service pack 2 without affecting the boot record and the windows 2003 server installation ? Note: It is not possible to re-install Windows 2003 server as I have lot of programs installed in it. Q2. If answer for Q1 is "NO" can Windows XP be restored to the first point of restoration and erase all post installation information and later upgrade to service pack 2 without affecting Windows 2003 server installation ? I just installed the Windows Home Server software (Which runs Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2) and I have NO AUDIO. My computer has an Nvidia GeForce 6 type audio card. I did some research on this and found that the UAA HD from microsoft is compatible with every version of windows, including Windows Server 2003 as long as it is not Service Pack 1 or higher! Rats! 1) Downloaded Launch Manager for Windows XP x64 from Acer's FTP (ftp://ftp.support.acer-euro.com/notebook/aspire_3020_5020/driver/launmgr.zip) 2) After unpacking the ZIP to a temp folder, I changed the properties (the Compatibility tab) of setup.exe to "Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows Server 2003 (Service Pack 1)" and set the Privilege Level to "Run this program as an administrator." 3) Then I installed the Launch Manager by launching the setup.exe file. What is interesting is that wbutton.exe only gets installed when the compatibility mode / admin mode was set. 4) When asked to reboot, I instead tweaked the contents of "C:\Program Files (x86)\Launch Manager" first: For all the .exe files in that folder, I also set the compatibility mode and administrator mode (the same thing as I did for setup.exe before). 5) Then I rebooted. When I logged in, I was presented with a series of dialogs about all those programs needing a permissions, which I gave. .... Problem Solved! more

im running a Pentium 3 PC I aquired as a file storage server.It runs windows 2003 service pack 2. I want to hook up a freecom 400gb usb 2.0 external hard drive. when I plugged it into the system it shows that the ports are only usb 1.1 so I installed a PCI usb 2.0 card. the card is recognized by windows but when I plugged in the hard drive (or anything else for that matter) my CPU usage shoots up to 100% and the system slows to a crawl. I just downloaded the Autocad LT 2008 Trial version and installed it ok, but when I try opening it it gives the following error... 'Autocad LT Application has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available' I noticed when I right click on the Autocad LT Icon and go to Properties and then Compatability, that under compatability mode it only gives the following options Windows 95, Windows 98/Windows ME, Windows NT 4.0(service pack 5), Windows 2000, Windows XP(service Pack 2), Windows server 2003(service pack 1) I have the 32 bit Vista Home Premium edition on my PC which I thought was supposed to be compatable with Autocad 2008 LT. Any ideas?Just to update - I tried uninstalling and then redownloaded from Autodesk after disabling antivirus software but still no luck. It installs ok but i did notice a box does appear towards the end - just a white 'x' with a red circle around it and it says MSI 173..when i click to close the box the installation completes ok. Anyone seen this before? Also, the graphics card I have is NVIDIA GeForce GO 6150 which I can't find on Autodesks's list of graphic cards it supports. i have recently installed windows 2003 small business server service pack 1, which comes with an installer for windows xp service pack 2. however, we're on a wireless network, and it can take over an hour and a half at times when transferring all the data and installing sp2 on the client. is there a way i can disable this from being installed, since the "remove" function in "setup client applications" wizard won't let me!! thanks, dan more
