URGENT MESSAGE FOR EVERYONE OUT THERE: Hi, I am in an urgent position and need immediate help for my laptop. I am writing this message from my mum's old computer as my current laptop is in chaos. Here's what happened: 1) I bought my new Windows Vista laptop about 2 months ago. I downloaded Norton 360 on it and everything was going fine up till about 3 weeks time. Normally when Norton 360 is working, it shows a green tick but, when it is not it shows a red cross. My Norton 360 showed neither and was completely unresponsive. I couldn't get Norton 360 to perform anything, it didn't even open. This was because of a 'Bad Image error' - I have no idea what this is. After that an error message kept coming up every half an hour or so and said - 'Windows LIVE COM MODULE has stopped working'. I had no idea what this was either. The same 'Bad Image' error that appeared when trying to open Norton 360 also appeared when I tried to download Google Earth and Java, and prevented me downloading them. 2) I knew there was something wrong, so I scanned my computer for a potential virus with my other protection software ' Drive Sentry ' and it found no threats or virus's on my computer. So I took a print-screen of the 'Bad Image error' that appeared when trying to open up Norton, to PC World. They told me to re-install Norton 360. 3) Even when I tried to remove Norton 360 from the Control panel, the same 'Bad Image error' would appear, which even prevented me from un-installing Norton. I was stuck, so I searched this problem on the Internet and someone suggested to download the 'Norton Removal Tool' which removes Norton from my computer with absoloutley no problem. As a last resort I downloaded the Norton Removal Tool. In the end, it removed Norton, but it was VERY suspicous and restarted my computer. After restarting the computer, my Drive Sentry Protection software gave me a pop-up on my sidebar saying - "38655 Infections detected, YOUR COMPUTER IS AT RISK" - I clicked on it and it said it 'synchronized' all of the trojan horses and worms etc..... I did not know what exactly 'synchronized' meant. 3) After this I scanned my computer several times with Drive Sentry and Windows defender. Drive Sentry said it found no virus's, but in the middle of scanning, Windows Defender encountered a problem and had to shut itself down. I started to get really worried. 4) Anyway, I decided to re-install Norton 360. It worked fine but then, an error message came up saying "The Symantec Live Engine stopped working, Windows is trying to find a solution to the problem". Of course after an hour of waiting, no solution had been found. I was VERY scared by now and tried to open internet explorer, Internet explorer opened but my homepage never appeared, it stayed white for about one and a half hours. At that moment, I also realized my sidebar that normally appears in Vista had disapeared. No programs were responding and many errors were coming up. The computer wouldn't even shut down. After a lot of frustration, I manually turned the computer off. I am too afraid to turn it on right now and have no idea what to do. - PLEASE HELP - I have never been in such a mess before and need my computer back up and working very soon for my University studies. Sorry about the long windedness of my question, but I tried to give as many details as possible. PLEASE can you give the best and most accurate answers for solutions in your knowledge. it's one of those dll files that mess up with ur computer, probably a virus, trojan or worm... its name is a string of completely random characters, uppercase and lowercase... it copies itself into 2 other instances that have also random names... the main problem is that this dll is locked (used by explorer and winlogon) and those wouldn't get delete during normal mode or safe mode... it also keeps a registry entry that points to its location (in the system32 folder) and if removed, this entry comes back immediatly... i tried some removal tools, no one has succeeded... this thing takes control of ur browsing, suddenly oppening popups that take u to anti-virus software sites that encourage u to download their software because u got a virus!! the last site it took me to is pctools... anyone has any idea of how i can overcome this thing??? i dont have any AV installed, i have adaware and Spybot, and AVG anti-spyware...to golfer2: i will try that to Sentrist Starleaf: i thought about that, but unfortunately i dont have another HD or computer to lt991: man i told u it wouldnt delete in safe mode to Neo: yes, i got the unlocker, but when i click on unlock the computer restarts coz it kills winlogon, which is fatal... more

My computer has been infected by this virus and the solutions in the net do not seem to be working for me. First, I cannot open my Task Manager since the moment I open it, a message says "SAM - SORRY -" and closed the Task Manager. Thanks everyone who answered my last post and I don't know Yahoo Answers enough to know how to ask a follow up question. I have the Netsky removal tool (I work with computers and software on a limited basis) and it failed to remove the problem. Like I said in my original post, I do not trust what showed on the PC because the PC seemed to be so compromised that it could be a virus disguised as a warning message. This is not acting like a normal Netsky worm and seems to be way more malicious instead of just an email replicator. What I really want to know is if any has seen a virus that takes over your desktop with a background consisting of a somewhat triangular design on a red full screen with the words "Your Privacy is at Risk". more

My pc keeps shutting down. The message I get is: The system is shutting down. Please save all work in progress and log off. Any unsaved changes will be lost. This shutdown was initiated by NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM. up my norton security scan. I can run other spyware removal tools though but they couldn't fix the problem. I got this virus from Internet Explorer when I downloaded Active X from a site. I've deleted the Active X files My entire deskstop became red in color and a message "The Privacy is in danger. Download privacy protection software now." is displayed. What is wrong with Windows Firewall? Of the free firewalls, which would you recommend as being better than Windows? We have used Windows Firewall at work and at home without any problems but also have a lot of other security programmes on the pc's, so we know our computers are safe. At one time we used Zone Alarm Free Version which was good, but briefly while it was updating, our pc's were left rather vulnerable because a message would come up that the firewall was turned off! Our technical team at work seem to think Windows Firewall is the best, and the technical guy where I bought my new pc suggested sticking with Windows Firewall. We have Windows Defender, Microsoft Worm Removal Tool, Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE Personal, AVG 7.5 Anti-Virus, AVG Anti-Rootkit, and Internet Window Washer on all our pc's without any conflict. I'm really keen to hear from you experts out there! Thank you.Well, thank you so much everyone. I now have to decide what to go with. I do know that Zone Alarm Free version works well with AVG - i.e. no conflict. I'm not sure about the compando one - don't want to cause my pc to have a wobbly. Resolved Question: How do I get rid of the Trojan.Vundo virus?

My computer is infected with the Trojan.Vundo virus. I have Norton Antivirus which did detect it. I used the removal tool for the virus, but I don't think it got rid of it. At first, the virus had disabled Norton from updating. Now, Norton is updated. I ran a full virus scan on my computer from Symantec several times. Everytime it said that there were no viruses detected on my computer, but I think the virus is still there. For example, everytime I restart my computer and I click (not double-click), just click once, on an icon on my desktop, the computer goes absolutely crazy and opens hundreds of windows of that program. Then it takes forever to close the windows. After the computer "calms down" it acts normal. Also, sometimes when I attempt to login, it logs off right away. Another thing is that a pop-up from Norton constantly shows up saying that it has blocked a worm intrusion. I run the Norton system scan at least once a week. What can I do to get rid of this virus? more

Resolved Question: A worm infected my computer. It keeps on shutting down everytime i log in. How can I remove the virus?

Once i logged in it shows a message "System Shutdown". I run over searching about this kind of worm thru internet. I found out its like a sasser virus. I have the latest updates on McAfee and scanned my computer but no virus has found. I also tried the removal tool from microsoft same thing. I have the latest patch and security from microsoft. Now please somedbody help me to get rid of this virus.I prevent the worm from shutting my computer by run command and type shutdown -a. and i don't want to reformat my system. I want to solve this problem so if this happens again to my other computers i know what to do. more
