I have a used laptop and today while using the internet, the computer shut down. Antivirus Pro 2009 suggested that I signup to remove spyware, but I was worried that sending my credit info wasn't good. I tried to download the free version of Norton, but it said that I should remove Symantec (the current virus protector), but it was password protected (since I am not the original owner, I don't know how to do it), so I was unable to remove Symantec. I want a free program that can remove virus trigger, I have spybot search and destroy, but it doesn't detect or remove such of trojan. I spend money on a spyware program before, which was supposed to be one time charge, and you have the full program, but the company change owners so I got stuck with the regular program, and if I want full again I gotta pay for. So I don't want to spend my money just because one thing that I can't get removed, I'm sure that there is some free programs out there that could fix this. Open Question: How can I fix spyware when I can't get online?

This is driving me completely crazy. When I open up my browser (Firefox) I get the error message "The connection was refused when attempting to connect to (every site I've tried)". The same thing happens with IE, so I've ruled out browser trouble. My connection status is fine, good signal strength. And, crucially, Yahoo Messenger is working fine. The other two computers networked in my house have no connection problems at all. Googling for help has suggested it might be spyware/malware. I've been running AVG Free, and have just upgraded to the fully paid version, but it hasn't found anything. Spybot found some problems, but it was last updated months ago, and can't connect to the internet for any more updates. I've tried to install AdAware and Stopzilla (by means of downloading them on another PC and copying to disc), but I keep getting error messages telling me they can't install because another installation is running (it's not). Is it a virus that's stopping me from installing new anti-spyware? How can I detect and remove spyware without updates? I'm at my wits' end and about five minutes from throwing the thing out the window. more

So, I haven't used my computer in a few days but my sister has been on. I logged on only to find a new program has been installed 'Spyware Guard 2008' I've done much research only to find that this is a malicious program designed to create false infections to get the victim to purchase the program. However, there is no way to uninstall the program. Everytime I do, I restart my computer and there it is again. Not only is this very annoying with the way it pops up every 2 minutes to alert me of these so-called infections but I'm very worried about my pc. Alright, I found a free/trial version of Sony Vegas (it's apparently this really awesome video maker thing) and I wanna learn how to use it and make really awesome music videos that you can see on youtube but every time I try to import the videos that I have, it says that it's an invalied file (or something close to that). Basically, no matter what I do, I can't open it in there. I don't use Limewire because it's just evil (All that spyware!) so I've got RealPlayer and I can download videos via RealPlayer. I was originally just going to use Windows Movie Maker but it kept freezing everytime I tried importing something so that lead to the downloading of Sony Vegas. It disabled my McAfee Security Center. It blocks most websites i try to get into to download free anti-virus. I was able to download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware but when I try to open up the program, it won't let me. I was able to download and run AVG Free 8.0 (but the anti-virus and anti spyware is outdated and it won't let me update because it can't connect to the website because its blocked), and it found a few viruses and I deleted them but the virus is still here. It won't even let me access a System Restore Point. And when I navigate the internet, i always get the page that says, "Insecure Internet activity. Threat of virus attack" which is obviously part of the malware. I'm at my wits end! What can I do to get rid of this nightmare! more

First off i have avg(free edition) as my anti virus. I ran a scan and it found a worm BOLIVAR something which turns out is from that nasty facebook virus going around.It was an EXE. file and i dont think it had been started so i deleted it. Scanned again and all seemed ok Things have been strange on my computer recently(switching off,going really slow etc). So i downloaded a free STOPZILLA scan just to be sure. This scan tells me i have a facebook trojan, and 2x HAXDOOR Window/32. As stopzilla will not delete these on free version i downloaded one that claimed to scan and remove spyware/malware etc(superantispyware). i ran a scan with this but apart from cookies it only found one TROJAN which was again a WINDOWS32 file. My questions are. 1. Can i delete this windows32 file or will i risk damaging my system. 2. Could STOPZILLA and SUPERANTISPYWARE be finding the same problem but naming them different. Im thinking Facebook trojan and bolivar xould be the same thing meaning it wasnt removed by AVG. also i noticed when googling HAXDOOR it mentioned facebook too so i guess its all connected. 3.basically i want to find and remove all these problems, although with an extended family and xmas round the bend im relying on free software at the moment(skinflint-Ed) Many thanks in advance more

My laptop is approx 1 year old. It uses windows vista. Recently it started running slowly and poorly despite nothing being found using a virus scan with AVG free. My friend told me that AVG wasn't a great anti-virus and i should get another. I tried to get another but then all hell broke loose. I downloaded 'Antivirus 2009' which i had heard was good but it didn't like it at all and i found out after downloading it wasn't free. I tried to remove it but couldn't. I saw that there is a free 'Spyware Doctor' or something similar that can remove things like Antivirus 2009 so i got that but it didn't seem to be doing much. I kept getting warning signals from Antivirus 2009 but it wouldnt do anything to solve it without payment/activation. I tried to solve the problem by disabling Antivirus 2009 and illegally (shh) downloading Norton 360 but before i got the chance my laptop just stopped working. It now wont work at all. I turn it on and it logs on but it crashes anywhere between instantly and 3/4minutes later. Ctrl + Alt + Delete doesn't work once it's frozen. Is there anything i can do? Should i take it to a PC repair shop? i've started it in safe mode and i'm restoring it to a couple of weeks ago. i'm then gonna try to remove all of the antivirus stuff and reinstall only 1 good one. if that doesn't work what should i do? more

I'm in New Zealand, trying to find a totally free music download site online, but not had any luck. I'm scared of spyware and some sites don;t let people outside the U.S access them. Are there any safe sites out there? or should I just sign up to one which I pay an annual or life-time subscription. Any advice? Thanks in advance for your answers! more
